1860 cottage, 1970 lean-to, 2015 addition + alteration. the pattern of heritage gable roofs informed this project. a pragmatic approach was applied by pulling the ridge line up in line with existing cottage & twisted 45 degrees towards north. This allowed sun light in & view lines back to hills and trees, opening up building & courtyard space.
celery top pine cladding was specified so as it would silver and age gracefully and sit comfortably in its heritage context. we were thankful to our trusting client to allow us to test some key ideas on this building such as twisting and folding a sculptural roof form and concealed gutter detail.
